Not one row knitted!

I can't believe how little knitting I'm doing at the moment.  I read about knitters who knit through adversity and illness.  If I have an iota of stress, I can't knit.  And that's what I've got, stress.  I'm trying to juggle work with sorting out the stash flat (love that name!).  I've spent all day over there.  What did I do today?  Built a bookcase and started filling it with knitting books.  My original idea was to keep them all in the bedroom, but I've decided that the knitting books belong in the living room. Nothing nicer than reaching across and pulling out a knitting book.  Progress so far (bear in mind I have dozens of books here which I will transfer over gradually, and at work!)

This will be full soon! I'm scribbling down the books as I go, so that I can enter them onto my database. I have two knitting software programmes for my Palm, but I prefer my HanDBase database that I produced for the books.  I intend logging books, needles and stash!  This might take a loooonnng time (especially the stash) but I want to be one of those knitters who brags about how many miles of stash they have used during the year, and can tell you how much they've added. Just for this year.  I'm always amazed that people can do this, and it always sounds scary, but I need to get on top of the stash.

For example, today I unpacked TWO carrier bags that had wool in them.

I discovered a lost friend.

Spot the shadow knitting?

And some stash that I had forgotten about

Mostly rowan dk, some cadiz (did we all buy that lime green?) and debbie bliss denim cotton.  Oh, and that lovely lilac anny blatt silk!

And I predict some more lace knitting in the future. J&S cobweb, and some gorgeous anonymous (but probably joslyn's fiberfarm) laceweight.

I apologise for the lack of knitting progress. I apologise for the abundance of stash photos, but as I'm going to be reacquainting myself with my stash, I think it's a great opportunity to photograph the stash.  Yikes.  To know how many miles of yarn I have and to have photographic evidence.

Great to see that you discover forgotten stash too , (I thought it was just me ;-)). Do let us know where you bought the bookcase, the last one I had buckled under the weight of all the knitting books!
There seems to be some knitting doldrums going around, Katherine was at Liberty last night and feeling the same.

Well, we'll have to put up with the lack of knitting for a while... Your priority is sorting out your stash and pattern books and I would say: keep going while you've got the energy!!!

I wondered what had happened to Japan!

When you've found all the duplicates can I raid them please?

I love sorting through my stash and knitting books, I find it very theraputic - and it most always puts me back in to the real knitting frame of mind again. I have never heard of this calculation of "miles of yarn". What fun - can't wait to hear yours! :))

Hi. I love the pictures of your stash. I love sorting through books & stash and rediscovering long lost items. I am a slow knitter and have hundreds of balls of yarn. Glad mine pales in comparison to yours!!

I'm delighted you have more stash than me, because I've been feeling overwhelmed by it in the last month. Too much reading knitting books and not enough knitting, but thats a nice relaxing thing to do, sometimes.

I have a suspicion that you are in fact about to open a yarn shop and that it is not actually stash but stock! Love the shadow knitting....you must finish that one soon.
