Pattern: Voyageur's Cap
Started/Finished: 2nd - 8th December
Yarn: Cascade 220 Christmas Red, under two skeins
Mods: increased an extra 8 stitches, though it's not really a modification as the pattern is just a general one, with suggestions on stitch count and length.
This was very much a shot in the dark as regards to width and length. My finished width was about 28" and length 24", with 16" of plain knitting in the middle.
Chris felted it yesterday. I was worried about the width, was not sure that it would felt down but it has. It's the length which could do with being a bit longer! He washed it at 60 degrees with towel, jeans and cricket ball(!). The felting is about right, it's thickened up but is not so thick we can't bend it in on itself. I will knit him another one soon, and make it longer. He wants it so that he can have a baggy bit at the top of his head! It's pretty easy knitting, just increase for the head, work straight and then decrease. The only 'stressful' bit is trying to keep the increases and decreases random!
Now for the rest of his knitting, for Christmas! The problem is that I only have four evenings (and i work late!), one whole day and an afternoon to knit a pair of socks and some felted clogs! I started them yesterday, but the rascal was only at his boat for a few hours! Now if this was summer and long days he's have been there until 7pm at the earliest, but with this cold weather and no sun it's a bit miserable. He is fine when he's sleeping over, but for the afternoon it's lovely sitting in the sun (indoors!) reading a good book and watching the world go by.
Clogs are barely started. Tbat yellow is a bright yellow, not the yolk yellow showing.
The Christmas socks
I was surprised to discover that my bright self patterning yarn stash is running low. I still have a lot of darker sock yarn, but only three suitable choices for Mr C. I opted for the one with no label! It's Opal Hundertwasse, but I'll have to look on ravelry to identify the colour!
This forces me (when Mr C's around) to knit on other things. I knitted another four hexipuffs on Saturday evening, and have started a baby cardigan (it's Small Things, again!) in pale blue for a baby due on 31st. I'd like to get this finished and given to the father to be before Christmas. He reckons she's about to pop and baby boy might arrive earlier. I've got to find my DIC Classy oddball stash as well, see if I have enough for Christmas knitting for baby T and Miss E (which might arrive after Christmas).
As if that isn't enough, I've just seen Kate Davies' new Christmas jumper and love it! I love Artesano Aran and imagine a jumper with a colourwork top half will be super warm. I sams orely tempted to start this, but am hanging back as I want to knit 12 garments next year, might think about it being the first one in 2012!
