Another major knitting disaster! I was happily knitting awya on the lace section on Saturday afternoon when I dropped a stitch. not normally a problem, but this isn't sticky yarn, and it just happened to drop with double decreases and lots of yarnovers.
I spent a little while trying to fix it, but unravelling part of the pattern repeat. Each repeat is 20sts but every six rows it changes by half a pattern. As it was about 50-60 sts in from the edge I ended up tinking back the end of each row, so that I had long loops of knitting yarn. Stiches dropped and dropped. I managed to catch them all 24 rows down! And then spent an evening and half of Sunday doing a fairly miserable job of reknitting these row ends. I am not the best at estimating tension. Some rows ended up with no yarb left to knit the last five or so stitches, others I had loads of yarn left, so that vertical line, where my reknitted knitting joined the rest of the shawl is VERY OBVIOUS. Loose stitches, tight stitches, I also created extra stitches (no idea how or why) becase when I started knitting the shawl as a whole row I found that at the end of the pattern repeat wher the 'join' is I had fice instead of one stitch.
I just couldn't face knitting, so I did a little stash diving. My next challenge was to find four colours which went well together for the Shetland Trader MKAL and .... a new KAL on the Stitchnerds group, a RED KAL. Oh, and three colours for Quill, the next TSS shawl!
Found the red quickly, I have some Easyknts Big Boy in Ruby Slipper, no idea of a pattern but the KAL starts this week!
For Quill I've gone for Felted Tweed. The lack and green from my recent striped jumper with red for the accents and the border.
I've chosen the yarn for the MKAl, not sure if it'll work or not though. I found three skeins of Yarn yard Clan, which I think I bought as a pack, probably for a striped shawl, but two of the colours are quite close and that had put me off using them, but I may be able to get away with it for this MKAL. I haven't taken photos, but the three shades are s sort of burgundy and two paler colours, pinky (I haven't looked in daylight yet!) and for contrast I found some green Big Boy (as I was in the Easyknits stash bag!) This KAL also starts this week! In fact, I have a ravelry download email on my phone, which might be the first clue!
I'm usually a one or two WIP person, but totting up the shawls which are either imminent or cast on, I'm going to have SIX SHAWLS on the go! I will most certainly not finish them inthe next two weeks!
Assana - 80% done
Wavy Bias - cast on last week but not worked on since
Amulet - cast on last night
Shetland Trader's MKAL - will be cast on this week
Stitchnerd's KAL - will be cast on this week
Quill - might as well go for it, will cast on this week too!
I jsut hope I don't get confused with the various shawl shapings!
Yiies (but in a good way!)
I'm not going to frog either. It's about 2-3 inches of knitting, and wll be hear the tip (as I have just 12 rows to go now). But it's resting for a few days, I will finish it in September!
