I've had Agnes on the back burner for months. When the rowan vintage book hit the shops, I went out and bought a couple of jumpers worth of yarn. October? Thereabouts. And started Agnes.
I'll knit fairisle, intarsia (at a push) and cable designs no problem. But give me something with bands of stocking stitch and moss stitch, and I am incapable of knitting one row without making a mistake. I think I'm fooled into thinking this is stocking stitch, and I don't watch the pattern.
Winter knitting forced Agnes into the UFO pile, but I pulled it out last night, thought I'd do a substantial few hours knitting. It grows slowly. A whole evening's work, and I've only managed 5cm - that is, 5cm on the narrow waist shaping area. I calculate that it will take me a solid 3 - 4 weeks to knit this little fitted short sleeve top. I've still got time for a couple of winter projects, and don't want to put in a lot of work on this, but I'll try to maybe manage a few evenings a week. See if I can finish it for spring!
Guess what? It's in the correct yarn, rowan 4ply soft and in the same colour as the pattern photo! Must be a first for me!
The shaping is really weird. You decrease at the side, rather than the centre, of the stocking stitch section. I'm hoping it'll look ok when it's worn. Hard to tell from a rowan photo.
It's really not as wavy as this! It's been scrunched up in a bag for nearly 3 months. Another odd thing about this pattern: rowan have two row tensions, for the moss stitch panel and the stocking stitch panel, I'm not sure which I should be following. I'm confident the wavyness of this fabric will disappear with a quick pressing.
I knitted a tension square for the felted tweed last night. 3.75mm is giving me too loose a fabric, I've lost all of my 3.25mm circulars, and the bamboo 3.5 aren't knitting well with the felted tweed, so I may have to buy yet more needles from Libertys on Thursday.
Meanwhile .... leaving work tonight, I happened to come across this pattern again.
which can be knitted in either aran or chunky yarn. And I happened to come across two packs of DB tweed in my office stash.
This colour :
(not too clear: it's #12, a dark olive with flecks of burgundy, lime and pale blue)
So tonight, I'll be casting on the West Side Raglan.
And maybe my Sockapalooza socks.
I know what you mean about moss stitch - I can never keep track of it, especially if it's mixed with something else.
The West Side Raglan looks like a lovely pattern. Can't wait to see what it looks like in the Debbie Bliss Tweed.

I just love this sweater, love this pattern book! This is on my mental list of patterns to make, wear, and love. Looks like you are keeping busy! I hope it stays cold long enough for you to enjoy some warm sockies...

Now when you say office stash, is that opposed to bedroom stash or living room stash and maybe even dining room stash? Hehe!
