Striped DK socks for MrC

Mr C's second pair in this yarn. The first ones were blue and yellow, and these are red and blue.  A belated birthday present. Only six weeks late!

I dithered over the heels.

Attempt 1 - heel flap in contrast colour. Didn't like the look of it, without the stripe after finishing the heel flap.

Short rows all looked terrible.  I tried my usual way, then the one with yarnovers at the beginnning, rather than wraps and Japanese short rows. I think the yarn is thicker and shows up the wraps a bit too much for me!

Finally decided on an afterthought heel.  This way I could see if I had enough yarn left over and knit the heel in the same yarn. And I managed it!  It helped that MRC likes very snug narrow socks.  Too snug for my fatter legs!

Still knitting away on this designer's patterns!

This is a jumper.  I tend to knit cardigans, and only have a handfull of jumpers, yet often I wear my cardigans buttoned up. So why not knit a jumper?

The construction so far.  Provisionally cast on for the yoke and work upwards to the neck, decreasing (much tidier than increasing for top down).  I've cast off the neck band and am ready to unzip that provisional cast on and work the body and sleeves, all plain. 

A rather rumpled yoke complete, must get some daylight photos!

The MC is Blue Granite, with CCs Orchid Pink, Cherry, Naked and Duck Egg.

I'm really enjoying Skein Queen's Voluptuous. It makes a wondreful garment.  I think it will also make wonderful  accessories. Especially as I have some small skeins for a bit of colourwork!

Cabin Path Shawl

Let's start the week off with a shawl.  This is Cabin Path Shawl, one of the Knitvent patterns, and the last one to finish. The stripes aren't just garter stitch - you knit two rows of garter and then when you change to the main colour you knit the stitch two rows below, dropping the stitch above. I found  it easier to just slip the stitches on the previous row. 

I'd forgotten how much I enjoy a knitted on border. 

Lovely pattern, lovely yarn.  Oh, and after we took these photos (MrC was rushing off to the boat) I realised that I hadn't sorted out a few loose stitches, where I'd dropped a stitch down and picked it up again, or an errant yarnover, things I usually do after blocking, see how much it evens out in the wash! So please ignore them!!

Pop! baby cardigan

 

My first FO for 2016!  Well I also have a shawl blocked, just waiting for photos, and a pair of socks which need a heel grafted, and possibly a toe reknitted (looks as if I've knitted the toe at a right angle instead of straight!)

Love the pattern but don't think the yarn will suit the baby/  It's a dull pink, and this baby can take bright colours.  I wasn't sure if I'd have enough yarn, and could have made the body an inch longer, if I'd knitted the leeves first!

Lovely pattern. I do like these seamless cardigans. I bet that it would look gret in a semi solid or gently variegated yarn. 

Vitamin D cardigan

I've finally gotten around to knitting a Vitamin D cardigan! And it's done!  

This is the third garment for 2015, and the third design by Heidi Kirrmaier, and I'm currently knitting another design of hers!

The yarn's Easy Knits Big Boy in Pistachio, maybe a bit more olive than this, but it's pretty close in colour.

 

Love it!  I wore it to work on Friday, so easy to wear.  Who knew I'd fall in love with this type of design?  

 

December knitting and January knitting goals

A bit late with the knitting plans this month, and I've still not decided if I'll have any New Year knitting plans!

December. Definitely not as much knitting as I'd have liked to do.  So much time spent trying to sort out birthday and Christmas gifts.   Mr C lucked out (in his opinion, not sure about the neighbours) with a banjo, which I only decided on the weekend before Christmas!  He's now fully immersed in banjo music. We've had picks and a tuner and he's spent a lot of time

browsing books and apps!

Kindling hat and mitts

Happy New Year!  

I had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break, but didn't do nearly as much knitting as I could have.  Basically I just chilled and pottered. Didn't even do any tidying up!

I do have a few FOs from 2015 though. I was trying to finish off stuff for 2016 - only two WIPs carried forward into 2016. not bad!

 

Here's Kindling mitts and hat, from Knitvent. The only thing remaining now is a shawl.  

These were such a quick knit with Cascade 220 leftovers from 2013.

and miatching mitts.  MrC wasn't around when I needed photos, so no modelled shots.

They've already been deilivered to the recipients!
