I didn't blog last week because, well, I didn't have any knitting to blog about. Two WIPs.
Simple yet 3ffective cowl - finished, but the CO was disastrous. Instead of casting off as usual. i thought I'd just pass the stitches over each other instead of knitting first. I've done this in the past. when I've ran out yarn before the end of casting off, but it's always been a bit tight, but this time I practised on a swatch, knitting hte last row on needles three sizes up, and it was nice and stretchy. Didn't work as well on the actual cowl though! Too tight. Becaseu I worked the practise on merino, and this wasn't merino. I may leave it but I expect I'll undo it and work it as normal.
6 fach socks for MrC, should've finished these a week ago! I'm going to reknit the first sock. I'd made a mistake in the leg, and although I could improve it, I'd already made up my mind to knit a different heel. The pattern is Vanilla is the new black, where the heel is knitted by incrasing stitchs, in 2x2 ribbing. I just don't like it much, so for the second sock I'm going to use a plain stocking stitch, and compare. If I like the second one I'll definitely reknit the firrst sock.
I'll be working on these socks for the rest of October, but it'll be hard, I'm really sick of looking at the yarn!
But in November Knitvent 2018 begins and I've enjoyed this in previous years. The challenge is to use stash yarn. It's been a good year for knitting from stash. There's been only three purchases all year. A cardigan amount of yarn (and it's knitted up), a skein of 4-ply and some Advent yarn (my one splurge!)
anyone doing Knitvent this year, who likes a surprise, don't read on
There's a Spoiler thread on ravelry which gives details of yarn and needle sizes for the next two patterns,
From memory:
Pattern #1 - Advent yarns! Or mini skeins and oddments. The ayrn is knitted up double with a strand of a laceweight silk/mohair blendn I'm not keen on that, but luckily, Helen's given needle size suggestions if you're only using mini skeins doubled. IDEAL FOR MY ADVENT YARN, if I can wait until December.
Pattern #2 - a skein of 4ply. Great for stash busting.
I'm not sure what the pattern s will b, but the first pattern uses a lot of yardage, and might be a shawl> Maybe the second is a cowl, or scarf? Helen uses a singles, so I don't think it's socks...
